Activities to involve your school in before the day.

These activities require you to register your entry, please follow the links below to get your entry form and for more information.

  • Young Growers Challenge, entries from schools from across the county in the Horticulture marquee 

  • Enter a Bug Hotel made by your school 

  • Horticulture Section – opportunity to enter and be encouraged to get involved in horticulture and growing

  • Handicraft Section – opportunity to enter and be encouraged to get involved craft work etc 

Free activities and things to see on the day.

  • Wheat to Bread, a chance to try your hand at baking bread

  • Horticultural Question time and Gardeners’ Theatre

  • Flower arranging demonstrations

  • Sheep Show, demonstrating the shearing of sheep and contemporary use of wool

  • Honey Show inc talks and demonstrations

  • Fur and feather marquee, see the different breeds of birds and rabbits on the day

  • Rural Craft Demonstration area – (includes demonstration of traditional crafts – inc coracle making, straw dolly making, traditional chair making, bodger, willow crafts, traditional hurdles etc  - many with the opportunities for visitors to ‘have a go’)

  • Heavy horse demonstration area – visitors are given the opportunity to watch the heavy horses being prepared for Show with accompanying presentations

  • Farrier demonstration and competition

  • Food theatre with demonstrations from local chefs and the opportunity to ask questions

  • Local Food Network opportunity to talk to local producers about where food comes from and how it is produced

  • Livestock section – opportunity to see at close proximity – cattle, sheep, pigs and the opportunity to speak to livestock breeders

  • Carcase section – opportunity to view lamb and pork carcases and the chance to speak to stewards about the various cuts of meat and methods of production

  • Equine section – opportunity to see a wide variety of horse and pony breeds.

  • ERYCC Animal Health representative on site to assist and answer questions

  • Driffield Agricultural Society marquee – opportunity to talk with Society members about the work of the Society and to learn about the other educational projects that the Society are involved with throughout the year

  • Countryside pursuits area showcasing gun dogs and activities

  • Pond dipping opportunities throughout the day with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

  • Fly fishing demonstrations and opportunity to have a go
