Why Membership Matters
The Driffield Agricultural Society was established in 1853. For hundreds of years, members have kept it going. Through wars. Recessions. Foot-and-Mouth (FMD). Weather that would close most outdoor events.
Members aren't passive supporters. They're invested. They volunteer as stewards. They join subcommittees. They vote at the AGM on society direction. They turn up generation after generation because this is their community.
Breaking the stigma
There's a perception. Agricultural societies are exclusive.
That's not what this is.
We have members from family estates. We also have Young Farmers aged 13 to 25. Poultry farmers. Livestock and Arable farmers. People with no farming background who care about rural communities and where food comes from.
Everyone in between.
If you think agriculture matters — if you want to support rural education, agricultural heritage, community cohesion - you belong here.

People assume it's only for farming folk, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm from Beverley, work in an office, and I've been a member for six years now. There's something grounding about it — you leave feeling reconnected to where your food comes from and the people behind it.

What keeps me coming back isn't any one thing — it's everything together. The families, the faces you only see once a year but feel like old friends, the sense that this part of Yorkshire still matters. Driffield Show is a reminder that community isn't gone. It's right here

People ask me why I give up my time and I struggle to explain it briefly. You're part of something that's been running for over a hundred years, and for one day you help make it all happen. When it goes well and you see families having the time of their lives — that's your reward right there.

Now working here.
That's what this looks like when it works. Education to Young Farmers to career in agricultural sector. Full circle.
Young Farmers isn't run by the showground — it's a separate organisation. But we're connected. Many of our members came through Young Farmers. Many of our volunteers stewarding the show are Young Farmers alumni.

If you're aged 13-25 and interested in agriculture: Look up Young Farmers in your area.
If you're over 25 and want to stay connected: Membership here keeps you involved in the agricultural community.
