A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A POTATO FARMER
We are dedicated to educating the next generation all about food and farming.
The Schools Education Day held annually in May is specifically aimed at upper Key Stage 2 children (aged 9 to 11 years) at primary schools based in the East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull.
Each year over 1,500 children enjoy a hands-on, interactive day of learning. Since the event started in 2016.
More than 70 bases illustrate different aspects of farming, food production and the countryside throughout the day. Working machinery is on hand in the main ring with livestock completing the experience for both learner and teacher.
In Great Britain there are 2,500 potato growers producing approximately 6,000,000 tonnes per year.
Potatoes are a good value for money food option. Over the past year the average price paid per kg of potatoes, enough to feed a family of five, was 66p.
